College Football Fan Map: Where are the Biggest Fan Bases?

August 19, 2025 by Vivid Seats

College football is back in all its glory, and so are the fans.

Amidst competitive regional rivalries and decades-old traditions, different college football programs reign supreme in their own corners of the country.

As America’s favorite Saturday fall tradition kicks off, Vivid Seats explores America’s college football fandoms by identifying the top team in each county, according to Vivid Seats NCCA Football ticket sales from 2024 to present day.

To find the most popular college football team in your region, view the interactive map below:

Nebraska: America’s Most Devoted College Football State

With no NFL, NBA, MLB, or NHL teams, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are the state’s de facto professional team, commanding unwavering devotion from border to border. This loyalty stretches far beyond state lines, with Nebraska ranking as the most popular college football team in 111 counties across the country.

Deep Devotion in Tennessee

Few fan bases in college football rival the passion of the Tennessee Volunteers. “Vol Nation” has a deep-rooted presence across the state, creating a sea of orange on game days. Their home turf, Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, is one of the largest stadiums in the country, packing in more than 100,000 fans for every home game. The Vols dominate the state’s college football landscape, ranking as the most popular team in 80 counties in Tennessee and 101 counties overall.

Michigan Defends Its Turf

The Michigan Wolverines continue to command a massive fan presence across their home state. Entering the 2025-26 season, the defending national champions boast the most geographically widespread following in Michigan, claiming loyalty in 60 counties compared to Michigan State’s 16.

Lone Star Loyalties: College Football Allegiances Run Wide

Unlike the NFL, where the Dallas Cowboys are Texans team of choice, the state’s college football loyalties are a bit more diverse. The Texas Tech Red Raiders claim most of the rural northwest part of the state, and even counties in New Mexico. Meanwhile, the other major Texas college programs claim territory in their respective counties and surrounding areas: Brazos County (Texas A&M), Harris County (Houston Cougars), Travis County (Texas Longhorns), McLennan County (Baylor), Tarrant County (TCU) and El Paso County (UTEP Miners).
